Town of Conception Bay South and CBS Downtown Business Association Grant $10,000 to local Chamber of Commerce

During tonight’s public Council meeting, the Town of Conception Bay South announced it will be providing a $5,000 grant to the Conception Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to support their efforts in providing services to the business community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CBS Downtown Business Association has matched the contribution, bringing the total amount of funding to $10,000.

“Without a doubt, this is a very hard time for local businesses. Knowing they are the backbone of our economy, we are pleased to provide financial support to the Chamber during a critical time when our businesses need assistance the most. Though this is an unprecedented experience, one thing we have seen time and time again is our community coming together to help one another no matter what the circumstance. Having the CBS Downtown Business Association match our contribution to provide even more support is another great example of that,” said Mayor French.

“The Conception Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, since day one, has been at the forefront of COVID-19 response on behalf of local business. The hard work of Chamber directors and staff during this time has been extremely beneficial. They are regularly connecting key information and resources to the membership of downtown Conception Bay South and the business community as a whole. The Board of Management is pleased to work together with the Chamber to support their efforts in navigating this new landscape for businesses,” said Christine Hand, chair, Downtown CBS Board of Management.

“On behalf of the business community, I would like to thank the Town of CBS and the Downtown Business Association for this grant contribution. It will assist the Chamber in its efforts to connect business owners with accurate and timely information, as we navigate through the growing uncertainty of COVID-19. We are dedicated to finding measures and supports to help the greater business community move forward. As the collective voice of the business community, Chambers of Commerce play a key role in supporting small and medium-sized businesses,” said Heather Howard, executive director, Conception Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.

During the pandemic, the Chamber is providing businesses a centralized portal of information and an enhanced digital marketing presence as they try to navigate the difficult environment. All business within the Town of Conception Bay South, whether a chamber member or not, are encouraged to visit www.cbachamber.com/covid-19 for more information.

The Town understands the importance of maintaining a strong and active Chamber of Commerce for long-term investment attraction initiatives. Over the past number of years, the Town has contributed approximately $3,500 annually to their operational expenses.
